Birney is supposed to be one of the better elementary schools in the area, but I'm not that impressed. My daughter has attended Birney since kindergarten, and one of my main complains there is that the all-day kindergarten program has been removed because parents had to pay for it there and don't have to pay for it at other elementary schools. I think instead of dropping the program, they should have given the parents the choice of either sending their children to another school for all-day kindergarten for free or attending at Birney for a fee. Another pet peeve of mine are the constant fund-raisers the school pushes onto the children. No, I don't want my daughter to sell cookie dough or coupon books! I think they forgot that there are other ways of raising money instead of selling things nobody wants.

My son attended the afternoon Special Education Program at Birney and I am 100% impressed with their teachers, classroom setting and ability to work with the children one-to-one! I could tell the teachers really love the students and care about their progress. Since attending Birney, my son has made leaps and bounds. I only wish we could take teachers with us to the next level. They have specialists who work with specific learning areas such as Speech, Physical Therapy, and more. I would recommend Birney over all of the other schools because of the staff.
Wonderful school. I have a son who attends 2nd grade. Nice and friendly teachers but the school is a little old
