We have two children attending The Brook Hill School and our third will begin next year. Our family could not be more pleased with quality education and character of The Brook Hill School.

I moved to the tyler area for my freshman year coming from a public school. With one day of visiting I was ready to start. The students are welcoming and the teachers make you want to learn and participate. My favorite happens to be Mr. Kent Travis, who made me a much better student and made me become intrested in english and logic.

I rate Brook Hill with this rating for one specific reason - the second grade program. The children are given far too much work to do. The paperwork is punitive, and my child is struggling every day with feeling stupid and inadequate and begging not to go to school. Every Friday they are given at least five tests, most of which they are not given any opportunity to review for at home. There is a Math program that requires a 95 or better score on a timed test. I want someone to tell me the reason why the tests have to be timed. If the kids know the facts, then why add the extra stress of doing it under the gun? I don't think the teachers see the students as anything more than assembly-line workers producing a product, and the toll it is taking on my child is agonizing.

I selected BH for it's low teacher:student ratio in Kindergarten. Our son has just 13 kids in his class + a full-time teacher's aide. 1 adult per 7 kids is amazing. He loves his music, art, spanish, PE, library and science classes. He's reading well and we are thrilled. The facility is top-notch and the teachers are warm and caring.
