Algonkian is a close knit community school that encourages parent involvement. It's accademics are excellent and teachers very involved and enthusiastic. It is truely a warm, welcoming and friendly place to learn!
Unfortunately, since Mr. Duckworth's departure as principal last year, this once-stellar school has become an average elementary school. Some teacher dissatisfaction is evident, and the once-cohesive parent community has become divided along neighborhood lines. A very sad situation for what once was a happy and productive learning environment.
Algonkian has a wonderful, warm feeling for children to learn and flourish. Parents are welcomed and encouraged to be involved. I have three very successful students here.
The school is ok as compared to many. But not nearly as good as those in Fairfax County. If you can afford to move, do it.
