About the Tests

  • In 2007-2008 Tennessee used the Gateway/End-of-Course (EOC) exams to test high school students in language arts, math, science and social studies upon completion of relevant courses.
  • The results for algebra I and English 2 are displayed on GreatSchool profiles. The scores reflect the performance of students enrolled for the full academic year.
  • Students must pass the algebra I, English 2 and biology I tests, called the Gateway exams, in order to graduate.
  • The Gateway/EOC exams are standards-based tests that measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined by the state of Tennessee.
  • The goal is for all students to score at or above the proficient level.
