In Montgomery County District Schools (MCPS), elementary and middle school students have the choice to attend the school in their neighborhood attendance area as well as magnet programs in the district. For high school, students in the Downcounty Consortium (DCC) or Northeast Consortium (NEC) may choose one of the high schools in their area through a lottery process. Applications are due in mid-November.Under the federal No Child Left Behind law, students attending a Title I school designated as "in need of improvement" have the right to attend a higher-performing school in the district.
