In the New Orleans Public Schools District (NOPS), students can attend any school (called intradistrict choice) or charter schools. Included in this district is the Recovery School District (RSD) for underperforming schools that require state intervention. The deadline for the public school application is in March. High schoolers can choose career-themed programs such as business administration, computer science, digital arts, finance and health sciences or participate in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program.Under the federal No Child Left Behind law, students attending a Title I school designated as “in need of improvement” have the right to attend a higher-performing school in the district.
