In the Jefferson Parish Public School System (JPPSS), students can attend their neighborhood schools or magnet schools that focus on such areas as the performing arts, science and foreign languages; some schools offer “advanced studies” programs with a more rigorous curriculum. The deadline for magnet applications is in late February. The district also provides special education services.Under the federal No Child Left Behind law, students attending a Title I school designated as “in need of improvement” have the right to attend a higher-performing school in the district.
