In calculating these ratings, GreatSchools analyzed the 2008-2009 New York State Assessments for the school and compared them to the test results for all New York schools with the same grade levels. Due to the fact that the most recent New York State Regents Exams results are from the 2007-2008 school year, GreatSchools does not include the Regents Exams results in calculating the current GreatSchools Ratings. The Ratings are based on the 2008-2009 New York State Assessments results only.

If there are no GreatSchools Ratings for a school, the school's test results were either not reported or incomplete. For high schools, Ratings may not be present due to the fact that New York State Regents Exams are not included in the calculations.

Keep in mind that when comparing schools using GreatSchools Ratings, it's important to factor in other information, including the quality of each school's teachers, the school culture, special programs, etc.

GreatSchools Ratings cannot be compared across states, because of differences in the states' standardized testing programs.
