Students in the Voluisa County Schools District (VCS) generally attend the school they are assigned to in their district, based on where they live. In certain cases (such as the availability of academic programs), students may request a transfer to another school in the district (called intradistrict transfer) or a neighboring district (interdistrict transfer). Charter schools are also an option. Gifted education services are available for elementary, middle and high school students. High schoolers can take online courses and participate in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. The district also offers special education services such as speech and physical therapy. Students with special needs may be eligible to receive a McKay Scholarship to attend a private school.Under the federal No Child Left Behind law, students attending a Title I school designated as “in need of improvement” have the right to attend a higher-performing school in the district.
