Dress code: Clothing choices must not be distracting, unsafe, or not allow for comfortable, modest movement. The open pod design does cause the climate controls to run to extremes, therefore a light sweater or jacket should always be available. Outside play occurs daily so shoes that support climbing and running are needed. |

- The school community of David A. Dutrow Elementary Magnet is committed to cultivating an academic environment with an international focus and perspective. In this open-space school
all children will develop their abilities to be inquirers, thinkers, and communicators. Academics, values, and attitudes are stressed to support the development of open-minded and well-rounded individuals. Dutrow students are provided experiences which enable them to
become productive citizens capable of making a positive difference and interacting in an ever-changing, diverse world.

- Clubs and extra-curricular activities include: Student Council Association (3rd-5th Representatives); Chess Club (4th and 5th, 3rd by invitation); Televised Morning Broadcast w/ student floor crew and anchors (4th and 5th); Enrichment Classes - Art, Music, Spanish, Journalism, Research, Wellness, Academic Tutoring, and Student to Student Mentoring; Chorus and Leadership Clubs - Office Assistants, Greeters, Dismissal Assistants, Patrols, Gardening Club, Recycling, Principal's Assistants, New Every 24 Thinkers,etc.

Parent and Community Support
- We have a very active PTA and parent volunteer program. Many additional educational programs and field trips are funded through our PTA budget. We have an International Childrens' Festival in the fall, Family Movie nights, programs featuring student performances, and workshops. In the fall we will begin a student savings program sponsored by Langley Federal Credit Union.
Other news or notes
- Dutrow is an open pod design school. Our students and staff work as a community of learners in this non-traditional space. High levels of committment to learning, cooperation, respect, and focused engagement and self-management are emphasized. Communication between school personnel and parents is viewed as a key in our partnership. Student educational success is our #1 goal.

We have received few children via this option. There is a shadow zone for the school where applicants along with applicant siblings of children already enrolled in our program receive first consideration for openings.
