Welcome from GreatSchools' Bill Jackson
July 16, 2008
Dear Parents and Friends,
In January of this year, GreatSchools officially took on the charge of carrying forward the
valuable work established by Schwab Learning. We’re honored that Charles and Helen Schwab selected
GreatSchools for this awesome responsibility, and salute them and their talented team for all
they accomplished in providing information and inspiration to parents of children with learning
difficulties.
From the beginning, our goal has been to roll out the transition and merging of SchwabLearning.org
with our Web site, GreatSchools.net, thoughtfully and carefully. To accomplish this, our team has
been hard at work behind the scenes. We’re pleased to announce that we have now transferred most of
the articles from SchwabLearning.org to their new home on GreatSchools.net. You can locate this
valuable content in the Learning Difficulties section of
GreatSchools.net. This section includes the same user-friendly navigation that worked so well on
SchwabLearning.org. From now on, anyone visiting SchwabLearning.org will be automatically redirected to
this new section of our Web site.
I founded GreatSchools nearly 10 years ago because I believe that parents are vital to making sure that
every child has an excellent education. GreatSchools is committed to inspiring and empowering parents to
get involved. We are an independent, nonprofit organization that provides information free to all parents,
and our dedicated team has built a Web site that is the nation's most visited resource for K-12 families.
One of the concerns most often expressed by parents visiting GreatSchools.net is learning difficulties.
Some parents are just coming to the painful understanding that their child may have a learning disability
(LD). Others know that their child has a learning disability but are frustrated in their attempts to deal
with the education system. All are seeking support on a challenging and often confusing journey. With the
addition of all of the excellent resources provided by SchwabLearning.org’s parents and contributors, we
believe that we can serve a broad audience of parents with concerns about learning difficulties. We look
forward to expanding the scope of this fine resource by continually adding new content to make it even more
powerful for families of children with learning difficulties.
We invite you to join our GreatSchools Parent Community, for an opportunity
to talk parent to parent about your child's challenges. You can ask a question, join a discussion or offer advice
to others.
I hope you'll join us as we maintain and expand this valuable resource.
Sincerely,
Bill Jackson
Founder and President of GreatSchools
