FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Parents Vote GreatSchools the Best Family / Parenting Web Site
Families acclaim the importance of schools in making key life decisions by selecting
GreatSchools to receive the People's Voice Webby Award
San Francisco, CA (May 1, 2007) - GreatSchools has won a People's Voice Webby Award in a vote
by parents across the nation. Webby organizers announced the winners in the annual contest
today. Hailed as the "Oscars of the Internet" by the New York Times, The Webby Awards is the
leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet.
"I founded GreatSchools in 1998 to help to catalyze a force that is vital to the process of
achieving excellence in education - parent involvement," says CEO Bill Jackson. "We are so
thankful to GreatSchools parents for the honor of this award, and for their incredible words of
support. In fact, it is our users who are the true winners - their involvement in their children's
education is what is the most important. That GreatSchools can help parents with critical life
decisions and with their children's education is an honor unto itself."
An overwhelming number of comments about GreatSchools were submitted to the Webby
Awards Web site by parents. The importance of school information for families in making key
life decisions was a big theme among the comments submitted: "This Web site has helped me
make one of the biggest decisions in my family's life. Deciding where our family should live. We
want our children to grow up to play an active role in society. Finding the right school system
for them will be the water and the sunlight that allows the seeds to grow."
The valuable information that GreatSchools provides was touted again and again:
"greatschools.net gives you facts, scores and state comparisons so you really understand how a
school is performing and how the students are learning. The parent comments are great for
getting a feel for the qualitative side of how a school is run. I am relying on this site as a
resource in deciding where to raise my family."
Other parents pointed to the importance of tracking the progress of their children's schools. "I
have used this site many times to determine how well my daughter's school is doing. I love how
I can compare schools right next to each other, all the data is in one place. I get more from
this Web site then I can get from my local school board which seems to always want to talk in
general terms instead of actual data."
And still others pointed to the newsletters and articles that the Web site has to offer:
"[GreatSchools also sends] newsletters which every parent might be looking for, like how to
help your child succeed, what to look for in your child's classroom, tips for summer planning,
vacation tips, reading tips. I just to love to visit this Web site and it is so addictive I don't even
realize the time when I am here."
One parent summed it all up with a message directed to GreatSchools, "Know that you make a
difference in the life of children and families across the nation. Always remember the families
that count on your information to plan their lives and the childhoods of the ones that matter
the most."
The 11th Annual Webby Awards received a record 8,000 entries from more than 60 countries
and all 50 states.
