graduation rate: An estimate of the rate at which ninth grade students will stay in school through grade 12. It has been most frequently calculated by summing the dropout rates for four years of high school culminating in the current year's graduating class. The figure is then subtracted from 100. Graduation rates are calculated by GreatSchools by taking a given ninth grade class enrollment and then calculating the percentage that graduates four years later.
