School Mission
  • Gateway High School, a model college preparatory charter school, combines a rigorous curriculum with the personal support possible in small classes, enabling each student to capitalize on his or her unique talents and capabilities. Gateway seeks and supports students who have ambition, who are committed to working hard, and who are eager to share responsibility for their own learning. Gateway students will acquire the skills, habits, and knowledge necessary for academic and personal success in college and in adult life. By attending a school which fully embraces the diversity of the Bay Area, Gateway students will appreciate what they have in common with those who are different and value what they learn from one another.

Curriculum
  • Foreign language(s) taught: Spanish and Heritage Spanish program.
  • Special education programs designed specifically for students with language or speech impairment and specific learning disabilities.

Instructional Program Highlights
  • All students take two full semesters of college counseling to support them as they complete the college process.
  • All students have access to honors and AP classes as well as extra support in our after school tutoring program.
  • All students take a rigorous course load that exceeds the entrance requirements for the UC/CSU systems.
  • Students take 4 years of English, 4 years of history, at least 3 years of math, at least 2 years of science, at least 3 years of Spanish, at least 2 years of art/drama, 2 semesters of college counseling, etc.

Activities and Sports
  • Girls sports: basketball, golf, soccer and volleyball.
  • Boys sports: basketball, baseball, golf and soccer.
  • Clubs and extra-curricular activities include: community service club; black student union; student council; film club; latin dance club and annual school play.

Parent and Community Support
  • The Gateway Parent Association (GPA) facilitates parent involvement in the school and supports the school through fundraising events and volunteer days. The Board of Trustees includes current Gateway parents. Additionally, we offer parent orientation each year and hold family conferences several times per year.

  • Gateway is a college preparatory school; we believe that all of our students are capable of success in high school, college and beyond. 100% of the graduating class of 2007 is currently enrolled in college.
