Special features before- and after- school care
Dress code Uniforms required: Uniforms include white shirts and navy shorts, pants, skirts and skorts as well as jumpers. The school t-shirt may be purchased at the school office, at the Friday Student Store, or at Parent-Teacher Group functions.

Curriculum
  • Special education programs designed specifically for students with hearing impairments, language or speech impairment, specific learning disabilities, visual impairments, multiple disabilities and other health impairments.

Instructional Program Highlights
  • All classrooms focused on the California State Standards, wtih GATE classes in grades 3-5. All students tested for GATE in grade 2.
  • All-day kindergarten beginning mid-year, with all kindergarten classes at a 15:1 ratio from September to February.
  • Reading and math specialist are experienced, retired teachers who work with small groups until each student is at grade level.
  • Children making safe, kind and respectful choices are rewarded monthly with a special assembly. This is a school which insists that children learn and practice good citizenship and respectful behavior.

Activities and Sports
  • Clubs and extra-curricular activities include: ASES - After School Program offered through the school district and the YMCA, provided free after school daily, 2:50-6:00; Tools for Tomorrow - integrated art, music, drama and writing provided free after school twice a week; EarlyACT - sponsored by the Rancho Mirage Rotary, focused on teaching and learning leadership skills in all grades; Character Kids - after-school choral group for fourth and fifth graders which performs at school and in the community and Violin lessons after school once a week, provided free of charge with free violin use.

Parent and Community Support
  • A highly organized and active PTG meets monthly to plan functions and involve parents in providing services, activities, and support for the school. Field trips, playground equipment, computers, and assemblies have been paid for with PTG funds.

    The School Site Council meets quarterly to look at the school plan, modify it annually, and generate ideas for improving the school.

    The Rancho Mirage Rotary Club, Rancho Mirage Women's Club and Rancho Mirage Chamber of Commerce all are dedicated to supporting the school and its programs. In addition, private donors support the school in ways large and small.

Other news or notes
  • Rancho Mirage Elementary School is one of two schools in the Palm Springs Unified School District with an Academic Performance Index (API) over 800. In our second consecutive year over 800, our current score is 805.

    This year, we are eligible to apply for California Distinguished School status.

    We are the only school in our district with an all-day kindergarten program in every kindergarten class (beginning mid-year.) From September through February, each class of approximately 30 kindergartners is split in to a morning and afternoon class, so that the student-teacher ratio is 15:1. In February, most students attend all day, from 8:34-2:50.

Students see a new theme every year they are at Rancho Mirage. Books are updated so that award-winning books are available every year and non-fiction books are updated.
