Oakland Unified School District

Know your school choice options in the Oakland Unified School District.

In the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD), students can attend their neighborhood schools or choose other schools in the district (called intradistrict choice) through the open enrollment process, as long as there is space; open enrollment applications are due in mid-January. Students can also attend charter schools. Gifted education programs are available for elementary, middle and high school students. The district also provides special education services.

Under the federal No Child Left Behind law, students attending a Title I school designated as “in need of improvement” have the right to attend a higher-performing school in the district.
