In the Anchorage School District (ASD), students can attend their neighborhood schools, charter schools, or “alternative” programs or schools that focus on such subjects as math, science and the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum. Applications are due in late March. Gifted education programs are available for elementary and secondary students. The district also provides special education services.Under the federal No Child Left Behind law, students attending a Title I school designated as “in need of improvement” have the right to attend a higher-performing school in the district.
